HOW TO HANDLE AN ANNOYING CARETAKER

In Kenya, most residential estates have a care takers or agents, someone or a group of persons in charge of the estate's welfare. some Even have committees.

Where I live, the landlord's sister is our caretaker and she is a total bitch. Let me explain myself and probably agree or disagree with me.

She knows when she is supposed to come for the rent, and unless I call her for it, she'll have selective amnesia. She doesn't come to pick rent then accuses me or withholding the rent. WTF right. As if that's not bad enough, when I call and remind her to come for the rent , which I do, she comes and now expects you to work with her time.

She has no respect whatsoever of the fact that you had to put some business on hold to wait for her. She comes hours later than the agreed time and starts lecturing us that we're being mean and rude to her.

Her definition of rude is us giving her a piece of our mind. Letting her know that we also have things to do not linger around and wait for her to come yell at us. That's not right. respect is a two way highway. if you expect me to respect you, you better be willing to show me the same kind of respect.

She is really annoying. This weekend, I waited for four hours, rescheduled somethings as I knew I wouldn't have any other time to see her. One of my bedroom's  temporary ceiling cover fell apart, my hot shower burnt , garbage never collected yet we're paying exorbitantly for the garbage services and here is a woman claiming that we are wronging her and she won't fix any of that.

Tell me, what do you do with such a person.

This is how;

1. Set boundaries; let her know that your time is as important as hers and respect is two way, give and receive not just receive.

2. Respect appointment; if you have set a time to do something, be there. If time passess call and either reschedule or have another option that benefits both of you.

3. Don't let them run your life. Neither you nor the caretaker is doing the other a favour, we both benefit. they get the rent we get a roof over our heads.

Confession: I have tried all of the above and yet I want to _______________.

Lord help me.
